Genomics
No matter whether one has sequenced a fragment of DNA or a complete organism or virus you will want to annotate the sequence before depositing it with the International Nucleotide Sequence Database Collaboration (NCBI, DDBJ or ENA). At its simplest this will involve identification of genes encoding proteins (coding sequences, CDS) and RNAs (ribosomal and tRNAs). There are specialized tools for identifying and visualizing AMR, CRISPR, virulence determinants, genomic islands and prophages.
